The Pokemon Company Will Release Games on Nintendo NX

The Pokemon Company Will Release Games on Nintendo NX

The Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara confirms that the company will be bringing its incredibly popular Pokemon franchise to Nintendo’s mysterious new console, codenamed NX.

In the wake of overwhelming success from the blockbuster mobile game Pokemon GO, some may have overlooked the fact that core gamers still have a pair of dedicated Pocket Monster titles on the horizon in the form of Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon. Indeed, while support for GO will continue for quite some time still, The Pokemon Company also plans on creating more tried and true experiences for dedicated gaming hardware. As wannabe trainers have now learned, this will include the upcoming NX platform from Nintendo.
This much was confirmed during a recent interview between the Wall Street Journal and The Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara, where the exec confirmed that the firm will be bringing core titles to the next dedicated gaming console from the house of Mario. Despite refusing to provide more details outside of that brief blurb, the comment made by Ishihara seems to confirm rumors that the NX will be both a home console and hand-held device.
“The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device. We will make games for the NX,” said Ishihara.
Rumor: Nintendo NX is Handheld with Detachable Controllers - Nintendo NX
Despite the fact that learning of The Pokemon Company’s intention to develop games for Nintendo’s next system was already more than expected, it’s good to see that the firm is already committed to the still-mysterious platform. This confirmation ties in nicely with reports that Zelda, Mario, and Pokemon will all be arriving shortly after the NX’s launch, too, although there’s no telling just how committed The Pokemon Company will be right out of the gate.
For example, Pokemon didn’t appear on the 3DS handheld until more than two years after the device’s debut. In that light, it’s good to see that both Nintendo and The Pokemon Company are seemingly on the same page when it comes down to support for the NX – although a confirmation on just how the company would be supporting the console from the early goings is still up in the air. Even then, there’s plenty to keep gamers distracted as they wait on a new core installment of the 20 year-old franchise on some new tech.
Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon will be arriving exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 2DS on November 18, 2016.
