Last Chance to Get PlayStation Plus for Less Than $50 By Dealzon

Last Chance to Get PlayStation Plus for Less Than $50 By Dealzon

Last Chance to Get PlayStation Plus for Less Than $50
Starting September 22 your 1-year PlayStation Plus Membership grows in price to match Xbox Live. Indeed, the PlayStation Plus is getting a price hike to $59.99, but there is one last day to pick her up for the old $49.99 price tag. Even better there’s one last hurrah for a deal under $50.
The holdout is eBay Powerseller Neogames via eBay Deals with a drop to $47.99. This discount may not match the kind of price breaks to $40 we grew accustomed to in early 2016, but it’s the best price online from a trusted seller with free shipping in the continental US and no sales tax. In fact, they’ve sold over tens of thousands of these PS Plus cards in the past handful of years.
Other than the eBay offer, every other retailer is still $49.99 for the moment. Best Buy, GameStop, and the rest will turnover starting tomorrow. We do expect to see deals during the Holiday Season, but it’s likely the best offers we’ll come will simply be a temporary reduction in price from $60 down to $50 – which uh if you’re paying attention, is the price of the PlayStation Plus we’re seeing today.
How often do PlayStation Plus go on sale? From our observation in the past year, the 1-year membership usually gets a price cut in 2-3 month interval. The last time we saw a “real” significant discount was back in early August before the price hike announcement. And prior to this event, it was on sale around May 2016. So if you don’t pick up some spare subscription, we’re expecting the next round to show up during Black Friday or Cyber Monday later this year.
PS4 Pro and Slim Models Announced

PS4 Pro and Slim Models Announced

3126774-pro.jpg
It might have been a shorter week with the Labor Day holiday on Monday, but this was a big week for big news, with huge stories from Sony, Apple, and Nintendo.

THE BIG STUFF:

Sony put rumors to rest on Wednesday during its PlayStation Meeting when it officially confirmed not only the PlayStation 4 Slim, but a brand-new console called PlayStation 4 Pro. The Slim model comes out next week, priced at $300, while the Pro version lands in November for $400. Read all our coverage here.
Sony's briefing wasn't the only big one on Wednesday, as Apple held its latest announcement event to reveal the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. And the rumors were right: no more headphone jacks. The phone announcement is obviously a big deal, but Nintendo's own Shigeru Miyamoto appeared on stage to announce Super Mario Run, an auto-runner-style game coming out in December for iOS devices.
Also during the briefing, Apple announced that Pokemon Go reached a staggering 500 million downloads and that a version of the game will be available for the Apple Watch.
In other news, some NPD numbers for August 2016 came in this week, with Microsoft announcing that the Xbox One was the top-selling console in the US for the second month in a row. August was the debut month for the slimmed-down Xbox One S, the release of which may have helped sales improve.

PlayStation Network Experiencing Problems; Sony is Investigating

PlayStation Network has been offline for the last few hours, leaving many gamers without access to their games, Party Chat, or other services. Sony is investigating.

According to Sony’s official PlayStation Network server status page, the PSN service is experiencing numerous issues across the board, and has been for the last few hours. Beginning earlier this afternoon, PlayStation 4 owners began noticing trouble signing into their accounts on their consoles, and took to social media to seek out help. It turns out it isn’t just sign-in issues gamers are having.
Confusion was high for a while with PlayStation’s own status page claiming everything was fine, but that updated quickly with the page showing login issues on PSN. Shortly after that, the PSN status page showed multiple services offline, including the PlayStation Store and gaming services.
At the time of this writing, it looks like PlayStation Store, Account Management, and Friends List are all back up and working, but the core services of gaming and Party Chat are still offline, meaning there’s very little PlayStation 4 owners can do with their consoles at the moment.
playstation network connection issues
Naturally, Sony is hard at work trying to restore all PSN services for gamers, though there doesn’t seem to be much communication from the gaming giant about the situation. Aside from the original tweets on the PlayStation Twitter accounts acknowledging the issue, there haven’t been any official updates. Granted, the PlayStation Network status page looks to be up to date, but provides very little information for PSN members about the cause of the problem or a timeline for when it should be fixed.
Sony is no stranger to technical issues with its PlayStation Network. The service has been targeted multiple times by various entities by both DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks and hacks to the system. Over the last five years, PlayStation Network has had to deal with numerous attacks, some lasting a few hours, others a few days. In 2011, the service experienced a security breach so widespread it caused the network to stay offline for a whopping 23 days. Earlier this month, multiple games experienced issues on PlayStation 4, including Neverwinter, FIFA 17, and the Battlefield 1 beta.
Hopefully the current situation – whether it be an attack or other type of technical issue – will resolve quickly. Gamers will undoubtedly be keeping an eye on the PlayStation Network status page to see when gaming, Party Chat, and other services come back online.

PS4 Elite Controller Listing Appears, But It’s Not Official

PS4 Elite Controller Listing Appears, But It’s Not Official

PS4 Elite Controller Listing Appears, But It’s Not Official

A listing for a PlayStation 4 Elite controller appears online, but no official word from Sony and an $80 price tag suggests the device is third party and not of ‘elite’ quality.

When the Xbox Elite controller was first unveiled, most didn’t know how the gaming public would respond to the device. High-end controllers were nothing new to the market, but this was the first time in recent memory that a publisher was responsible for the device’s manufacture. And as it turns out, the response was overwhelmingly positive – to the point the Xbox Elite controller was hard to find during its first few months of release.
So, it only makes sense that others would want to copy that formula, namely Sony and its DualShock 4. And as it turns out, there is a PlayStation 4 Elite controller on the way, but it’s not from Sony.
As the name implies, the PlayStation 4 Elite controller is not a souped-up version of the DualShock 4; it’s actually an $80 off-brand controller with “elite-like” features. Those include back paddles, a grooved d-pad, and some customization options, to name a few.
In fact, this PlayStation 4 Elite controller is fully compatible with the Xbox Elite in terms of replaceable features. So any who may own the Xbox Elite will be able to mix and match back paddles and joysticks with this upcoming controller.
All that said, though, it can’t be stressed enough that the PlayStation 4 Elite controller is not a Sony manufactured product. It may look like the Xbox Elite, but the major selling point of the Xbox Elite controller is that Microsoft manufactures it.
In other words, we can’t speak to the quality of the controller or the type of comfort/ease of use that it may offer. Third party controllers are hit or miss, with most landing in the “miss” category. Plus, at nearly half the price of the Xbox Elite – arguably the best controller on the market right now – it’s hard to imagine that this PlayStation 4 Elite controller will be seen as anything as a cheap knock-off.
ps4 elite controller back

If there are any gamers out there looking for something comparable to the Elite for their PS4 we would recommend taking a look at Scuf. The Scuf brand has been around since before the Xbox Elite was introduced, and operates in a very similar space.
Essentially what they do is customize a real DualShock 4 controller with back paddles, different types of joysticks, and they even offer different color combinations. At this point, a Scuf is the closest thing to a “PlayStation 4 Elite” controller as gamers are going to get, until Sony announces something official.
As far as if/when Sony might announce something official, this week’s PlayStation Meeting seems like the best bet for the foreseeable future. If there were to be an Elite DualShock 4 then an announcement alongside the PlayStation NEO would be perfect. Outside of that, though, Sony fans might be waiting a while to see something comparable to the Xbox Elite.
The PlayStation 4 Elite controller will reportedly be available on November 1, 2016 for $79.99.

The Xbox One S features HDR support for some games, including Gears of War 4, which comes out in October. HDR stands for high dynamic range, and televisions that feature it have an expanded color and contrast range. It makes everything brighter and more vibrant. Other games that support the technology include Forza Horizon 3, Scalebound, and NBA 2K17.
Looking further out, Microsoft has said you will need a 4K TV to make the most of the Xbox Scorpio console, which comes out in 2017.
Two New PS4 Models To Be Revealed In September - Report

Two New PS4 Models To Be Revealed In September - Report

Rumored PlayStation 4 Slim Pictures Surface
Sony will be unveiling a new PlayStation 4 standard model in September alongside a new, upgraded PlayStation 4, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. Citing sources "familiar with the matter," the report alleges that the two new consoles will be introduced in a bid to "maintain demand" for the PlayStation 4.
The timing lines up with the PlayStation event Sony has scheduled for September 7 at 3PM ET. The presentation will be held at PlayStation Theater in New York, although the company has not disclosed what exactly it will be showing. This new information lines up with previous reports that the a new PS4 model would be revealed at a PlayStation 4 event in September. GameSpot reached out to PlayStation for comment, and a spokesperson for the company responded, "Sony Interactive Entertainment does not comment on rumour or speculation."
3115364-ps4.jpg
In June this year Sony confirmed that it was working on a more powerful version of the PlayStation 4, code-named Neo. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Andrew House revealed that the console will feature improved graphics and support for 4K resolution. House also confirmed that the console is intended to be sold alongside the standard version of the PS4, at a higher price.
Sony hasn't revealed much else about the Neo, opting not to talk about the console at E3 this year. However, the PlayStation event takes place just a week before Tokyo Game Show, which starts on September 15. Analysts have previously suggested that new PlayStation 4 models would be launched before or during Tokyo Game Show.
All PS4 games will be playable on both the existing PS4 and Neo. Sony has said it will take a "small but manageable" amount of effort for developers to get games working on both versions of the PS4. Since the announcement of Neo and Scorpio, a number of publishers have spoken positively about this type of mid-cycle hardware upgrade.
Rumors regarding upcoming hardware releases from Sony, including both an upgraded PlayStation 4 Neo console and a slim version of the existing PlayStation 4 platform, have been swirling since prior to E3. Today the Slim half of those rumors grows quite a bit more substantial. Several NeoGaf users hunted down and collected online auction listings for what was said to be a retail versions of a slimmer PlayStation 4. Their efforts produced enough evidence to show that this is likely no rumor or fake.
By contacting the owner of the auction listing, NeoGaf was able to produce several photos of the new PlayStation 4’s retail box. Later on, they even persuaded the seller to open the box and take photos of the new console itself. The more squarish, matte console and all of its fine details look persuasive. While a 3D printer could certainly produce such a construct, the various plug-ins —  USB, ethernet, power — show a much more thorough construction.
Later images were produced from other sources who also claimed to have their own updated slimmer PlayStation 4. Some of those photos even compared the sizing of the new PlayStation 4 to the old, to an extent. The slim version appears to be just as wide from the front, but shorter from back to front and from top to bottom. The hard drive expansion bay remains, via a slot in the back of the console. Across the bottom of the console are small spacers which will hopefully prevent the tilting issues that the current PlayStation 4 suffers from.
PlayStation 4 Slim Leak - Back
There are some additional considerations to keep in mind regarding the listing, as well. For instance, the boxing of the new PlayStation 4 simply lists the updated version as the “PS4” and not a “PS4 Slim.” That could likely imply that Sony will be halting production on the old version of the platform in favor of the new one. That makes extra sense when considering that the rumored PlayStation 4 Neo will be supplanting the standard PlayStation 4 as the core modern PlayStation platform.
Also, one has to wonder how exactly these shady fellows acquired an as yet unannounced and unreleased slim PlayStation 4. More than that, these are quite clearly retail versions of the console and so they’re either being shipped out to retailers or already sitting in back rooms waiting to be sold. In either of these cases, it wouldn’t be surprising that a few slip through the cracks and end up in the hands of some not-quite-so trustworthy employees.
What the evidence at hand  shows is that Sony must be precariously close to announcing and launching this updated, slim PlayStation 4 model. They’d probably do it at some significant event, perhaps like the upcoming PlayStation Meeting on September 7. What a coincidence!
Stay tuned for news from Sony’s September 7 PlayStation Meeting, including any news on this slim PlayStation 4 or the in-development PlayStation 4K, in the weeks ahead.

Microsoft Already Has Ideas for What Comes After Xbox Scorpio

Microsoft Already Has Ideas for What Comes After Xbox Scorpio

Microsoft Already Has Ideas for What Comes After Xbox Scorpio Xbox head Phil Spencer responds to a fan who asked about the future of Xbox and let it be known that Microsoft is already looking past Project Scorpio, which releases next year.

Microsoft’s Project Scorpio won’t be out until 2017 but that isn’t stopping the company from thinking even further into the future about what might come next. That’s the takeaway Xbox boss Phil Spencer gave Thursday in response to a question from a fan on Twitter.
For the uninitiated, Project Scorpio is an upgraded, more powerful version of Xbox One, first announced by Microsoft at E3 2016. Spencer has previously gone on record saying that Scorpio won’t shorten this console generation’s life cycle because it’s still technically an Xbox One, just more powerful. All games that run on Project Scorpio must be playable and have the same key features on Xbox One, according to Microsoft’s requirements for developers.
On Thursday, a Twitter user tweeted at Spencer and asked if Project Scorpio will be the last console generation for Xbox. The fan might have been responding to the comments made by Xbox marketing executive Aaron Greenberg earlier this week, in which he said that the idea of a console generation, as it is traditionally known, might be over.
Spencer responded that the Xbox team is already working on ideas for what might come after Project Scorpio, giving credit as well to the gaming industry’s creators and early adopters.

Umair @umairshazi
@XboxP3 Hey Phil! Will the new Xbox Scorpio will be the last console generation of xbox??!!!
@umairshazi Already have ideas for what could be after Scorpio. Great thing in gaming, early tech adopters and best creators of any industry

Not surprisingly, Spencer didn’t give any additional details and strictly speaking, he didn’t directly answer the question as it relates to console generations. The Xbox team could indeed have plans for Scorpio’s successor, but that console might also be considered part of the Xbox One family, and therefore, the same generation. This would jive with some other comments that Microsoft made in the aftermath of this year’s E3, stating that consoles could start following the smartphone business model of incremental upgrades every 1 to 2 years. Gamespot notes that Greenberg’s remarks this week seemed to double down on that strategy.
“For us, we think the future is without console generations,” Greenberg said. “We think that the ability to build a library, a community, to be able to iterate with the hardware–we’re making a pretty big bet on that with Project Scorpio. We’re basically saying, ‘This isn’t a new generation; everything you have continues forward and it works.’ We think of this as a family of devices.”
Fans probably shouldn’t read too much into Spencer’s (or Greenberg’s) comments, as it would actually be more newsworthy if Microsoft said they weren’t already working on the future of Xbox. It should also be noted that with Sony’s PlayStation Neo rumored to beat Scorpio to market, Spencer and Greenberg also have an incentive to make sure the Xbox One stays front and center in the minds of gamers until Scorpio arrives. Messaging like this will definitely accomplish that goal.
Project Scorpio will arrive during the 2017 holiday season.
Xbox One Outsells PlayStation 4 in July 2016

Xbox One Outsells PlayStation 4 in July 2016

Xbox One Outsells PlayStation 4 in July 2016

Thanks to a strong showing at this year’s E3 and a significant price drop, Xbox One successfully outsold PlayStation 4 in July and may do it again in August.

Since releasing in 2013, Sony and Microsoft have been in a fierce battle to win the hearts and money of console gamers. Both companies have worked hard to promote their respective platforms and offer unique bonuses and exclusives that woo and interest gamers.
For the most part, PlayStation 4 has come out ahead in this console war having sold about twice as many consoles worldwide compared to Xbox One. However, as has happened a few times in recent years, Xbox One was able to claim a single month in the ongoing console battle. That was the case last month, when Xbox One grabbed the top spot for console sales in the United States for the month.
Speaking with GamesBeat, Xbox’s marketing head, Mike Nichols, offered a few thoughts about Microsoft’s success last month, along with his excitement for how many people are playing on Xbox One:
We’re honored that Xbox One was the best-selling console in the U.S. in July, and that total gaming hours on Xbox consoles globally were up 18 percent over last year, reaching 1.55 billion hours.
While the win is good for Xbox, it won’t do much to close the gap between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 sales. Traditionally, July and August are slow sales months for consoles, so although Microsoft outsold Sony, the numbers themselves likely weren’t extremely high.
xbox one s launch
As for how Microsoft was able to claim the top spot in console sales, there are two likely reasons. First, Microsoft dropped the price of the Xbox One again in preparation for the launch of the Xbox One S on August 4th. Couple that with the various additional discounts and offerings provided by retailers around the nation, it’s not surprising to see Xbox One do well during July. The other reason is Xbox’s strong showing at E3 this summer.
Considering how well the Xbox One S has been received so far by gamers, it’s likely Microsoft will also claim August in the console war. Nichols offered some thoughts about the console’s success so far:
Following its release last week, the 2TB launch edition of Xbox One S sold out in the U.K. and is nearly sold out in the U.S. Later this month on August 23, we will launch 500GB and 1TB options for Xbox One S at $299 and $349, respectively. We’re excited about all the fun gamers are having on Xbox One and all the new releases we’ll be bringing them this holiday.
It’ll be interesting to see the results of console sales in August, as well as how Sony responds in the coming months. With holidays now on the horizon, both companies will likely start ramping up marketing for their respective hardware.
What do you think about Xbox One’s success in July?
Microsoft Confirms 2 TB Xbox One S is Limited Edition

Microsoft Confirms 2 TB Xbox One S is Limited Edition

Microsoft Confirms 2 TB Xbox One S is Limited Edition Microsoft confirms that the 2 terabyte line of white Xbox One S consoles is a limited-time variant – meaning that those hoping to secure the console will want to act fast.

Special edition consoles and video games are a dime a dozen in the industry nowadays. While many aren’t quite as limited as publishers claim to be, however, the fact that knowing one day they will be gone is a tantalizing carrot to dangle in front eager gamers. As it turns out, Microsoft’s 2 TB Xbox One S is yet another limited-time version that isn’t meant to sit on store shelves forever.
Speaking to GameSpot, Microsoft confirmed the limited availability planned for the console in a brand new statement. After referring to the platform as a “special launch edition,” the company proceeded to relay the excitement it has allegedly seen from consumers thus far, and urged fans to check out their local outlets to see if there are still Xbox One S consoles in stock.
“The 2 TB Xbox One S was released as a special launch edition in limited quantities only. We’re thrilled at the amount of interest we’ve received and we are always looking for opportunities to offer choice and fantastic value to our fans. Please check with your local retailer to determine whether the 2 TB Xbox One S is still available in your market.”
xbox one s 2 tb
Since the Xbox One S is capable of giving a performance boost to some titles – not to mention the fact that it upscales to 4K – it’s obvious to see why dedicated Xbox users would want to secure the upgrade sooner rather than later. When also considering what was said about the platform during the Slim’s reveal at E3 2016, there will be variants released in the coming months and years, too. As of this writing, there are both the 1 TB and 500 GB versions of the white S system (which aren’t currently said to be limited), but that could very well change soon.
Outside of those, the only other known version of the Xbox One S is based on Gears of War 4, and it’s more or less a crimson-colored console that looks like it was pulled right from the claws of the enemies inhabiting that franchise. This hardware won’t be arriving until October 7, 2016 (available alongside the early release of Gears 4), but that limited edition SKU should garner ample attention from dedicated followers of the series. Bearing that in mind, there are sure to be many other franchises that follow suit with custom S debuts.
Have you picked up the slim Xbox One? Is the limited availability of the 2 terabyte system enough to convince you to invest? Get at us in the comments.

Best compact gaming PCs 2015: What's the best mini PC you can buy for gaming !

While games consoles such as Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox offer a distinct advantage when it comes to ease of use and armchair convenience, you still can’t beat a high-end gaming PC when you demand the ultimate in graphics quality and frame rates.
Ideally, compact gaming PCs should run relatively cool and quiet, too, even if the words ‘small’ and ‘passive cooling’ are rarely bedfellows. We’re not looking for teenager bling, go-faster stripes or multi?coloured light shows; just sensible gaming PCs for grown ups.
A high-end system will easily outperform a console in graphics quality, not to mention being able to run a huge number of other programs. But a traditional tower PC is too obtrusive in a living room.
Mini PCs such as the Intel NUC D54250WYK (tinyurl.com/kdblvnd) make great multimedia systems, thanks to near-silent operation and tiny physical size, but they can’t offer the level of performance required for immersive gaming.
In between these two categories, sits the compact gaming PC. Based on smaller Mini-ITX or Micro-ATX motherboards and cases, they take up much less space than a full-sized desktop, yet provide enough room internally to support the full-sized graphics cards and overclocked processors gaming enthusiasts demand.

Best compact gaming PCs 2015 UK: Processor

The Intel Core i5-4670K is difficult to beat today for all-round performance at a reasonable price. You can opt for the supreme power of the more expensive Core i7-4770K, which can process double the number of threads, but you’ll pay a considerable premium and see minimal improvement in gaming speeds. However, we do see considerable speed gains from the Core i7-4770K in more demanding tests such as the PCMark 8 Creative benchmark.
Any of these ‘K-series’ processors will allow a reasonable amount of overclocking, but make sure your system uses a motherboard that supports this function if you want to make the most of such a CPU. And bear in mind that compact systems are usually already challenged in the cooling stakes, so you won’t want to make things worse with a wound-up processor.
We use PCMark 8 to quantify the general performance of each machine. When most PC vendors are selling in essence the same box of bits, differences can be attributed to the level of overclocking and the use of fast memory and an SSD. Graphics cards still come into play for non-gaming tasks such as converting video formats, which is also reflected in PCMark 8 scores that make use of the GPU, such as the Home and Creative tests.

Best compact gaming PCs 2015 UK: Graphics card

Graphics cards vendors fall in and out of favour as AMD and nVidia leapfrog each other with the latest technologies. It’s wise to base your GPU decision on the type of games you like to play, since many titles are sponsored by one of these two graphics-card designers and are thus likely to run better on its own cards. In this group test, we see five examples sporting nVidia.
Never skimp on the graphics card in a gaming PC – it’s the single most expensive component, but essential for the best Windows gaming. Accordingly, many of the systems here are fitted with powerful cards such as the nVidia GeForce GTX 770 or AMD Radeon R9 290X. In many games, a faster CPU will have much less impact than a faster graphics card, so spend your money appropriately. If there’s a specific game you wish to play, it can be worth investigating the performance requirements to find out where your money is best spent.
You can save money with a factory overclocked card that has a lower base spec, such as a GeForce GTX 770 with boosted clock speeds. These often cost significantly less, with a minimal reduction in performance. There’s not enough space to install a second graphics card in any of these PCs, though, so make sure you specify the best graphics card you can afford at the time of purchase.

Best compact gaming PCs 2015 UK: Cooling

Cooling is essential if any CPU is not to overheat, but especially one that’s been overclocked. The basic Intel CPU cooler UK vendors often fit simply won’t do. Airflow is much harder to manage in a compact computer case, so many vendors have opted for sealed liquid-cooling systems such as the Corsair H60, which places a radiator close to the case exterior, making it easier for cooling air to reach it.
There’s nothing to stop you choosing a traditional fan and heatsink arrangement, but this must be accompanied by careful airflow management and tidy internal cabling. Additional case fans are often advisable, too. A non-overclocked system will have less rigorous cooling requirements, so be careful if you’re planning to tweak the system yourself and ensure that the supplied cooling system is adequate for your plans.
Gamers like their systems to look the part, but the case needs to be practical. Internal cable management aids airflow, while fan controllers let you reduce noise or boost cooling as necessary.
As these compact PCs will often be used hooked up to the living room TV, none of them have been supplied with monitors.

Best compact gaming PCs 2015 UK: Peripherals

The type of controllers you require will vary depending on how you have your PC set up and only Chillblast has included a keyboard and mouse as standard this time around.
If you’re using your PC on a desk with a monitor, you’ll benefit from the improved responsiveness of wired rather than wireless devices. Look for high-resolution mice, and keyboards with programmable keys and backlighting.
High-grade mechanical switches in keyboards have a better ‘feel’ and provide longer life than cheap membrane switches. Some draw attention to the W, A, S, D keys with a different colour or texture. A gaming sound card can provide a more immersive experience by adding multiple sound effects, with improved audio fidelity. Also consider a gaming headset with a built-in mic.
However, if you’re planning on playing from the sofa, you’ll want wireless controllers. For keyboard input, we would recommend a wireless model that comes with an integrated pointing device, such as a trackball or trackpad.
If you’re using the PC as a home entertainment hub, you may also want to consider idle power consumption and noise. Also ask yourself whether you need an optical drive such as a Blu-ray player built into your computer or whether you will be using a traditional external player already connected to your television.

Best compact gaming PCs 2015 UK: Warranty

Warranty terms are crucial when it comes to gaming PCs. The longer the better, but also look for a collect-and-return rather than return-to-base option.

Best compact gaming PCs 2015 UK: How we test

With this compact gaming PC group test, we’ve started testing with Futuremark’s PCMark 8 v2.0 benchmarking suite. Unlike the previous PCMark 7 benchmark, the new version doesn’t produce a single overall figure. Instead, results are divided into Home, Creative, Work and Storage tests.
The Home benchmark reflects command tasks for typical home use with lower computing requirements such as web browsing, photo editing and low-end gaming.
The Creative benchmark is aimed more at enthusiasts and professionals working with multimedia and entertainment content. It is more demanding on the processor and includes transcoding tests as well as further gaming workloads.
The Work test is geared towards office work tasks like creating documents, web browsing, spreadsheets and video conferencing. This test does not stress the gaming and multimedia capabilities of the PCs in this group test.
Gaming performance
We’ve used three games to evaluate graphics performance. We run our tests at 1280x720- and 1920x1080 pixels at various detail settings. Framerates are recorded using the following games and quality settings.
Final Fantasy XIV: 1280x720, Medium quality; 1920x1080, Maximum quality.
Alien vs Predator: 1280x720, all settings at Maximum quality; 1920x1080, all settings at Maximum quality.
Sniper Elite V2: 1280x720, all options set to Low quality, advanced shadows off, Supersampling off; 1920x1080, All options set to Medium quality, advanced shadows off, Supersampling off; 1920x080, all options set to Ultra quality, Advanced shadows – high, 4x Supersampling.
Power consumption torture testing
We measure the power consumption of each PC base unit when idle, and again while running at its performance limit. During the idle test, the PCs hard drives are still spinning and the power-management features are not enabled. For the full-load torture test, we run Prime 95 to force all CPU processing threads to maximum utilisation and stress system memory. At the same time we run the Geeks3D Furmark benchmark to stress any installed graphics cards. We leave these tests running for 10 minutes, then record the power consumption and the CPU temperature reached.
Overclocking
Because gamers demand the best performance from their hardware, we allow vendors to overclock PCs in this category. We require that any tweaked component is designed for overclocking, and that the PC vendor offers a comprehensive warranty.
Subjective assessment
We pay close attention to the physical characteristics of each PC, its noise output and its build quality, delving inside the case and taking note of the quality of components used, cabling and airflow.
Support
Differences in warranty terms can impact our scoring. Long warranties are sought after, but we also look at the terms and conditions – specifically, whether faulty PCs must be returned to the vendor at your cost and if both parts and labour are included.

Best compact gaming PCs 2015 UK: Conclusion

All of these compact gaming PCs offer considerable space savings over their full-sized counterparts. While they don’t offer the same scope for upgrading with multiple drives and graphics cards or provide room for advanced cooling solutions and soundproofing, they perform every bit as well as a standard gaming PC.
Half of the PCs here are overclocked to deliver greater system performance, while the others were not. Gaming performance is, however, dictated by the choice of graphics card, which is reflected in the price.
If you have £1,500 to spend, then Mesh’s Elite Mini Gaming OC offers unrivalled performance across the board, thanks to an Intel Core i7 processor and the fastest graphics card of the group. Usually the law of diminishing returns would dictate that spending this much more on your PC would provide only a modest improvement in performance, but in this case you really do get what you pay for with bottom-line framerate improvements in the region of 33 percent over the slowest systems. But do you really need all that performance?
If you have a more modest budget, then Chillblast’s Fusion Xcalibur will deliver a competent gaming experience for just £849. That’s more than £600 less than the Mesh system and by far the least expensive PC of the group, yet the fusion Xcalibur is able to keep up with PCs costing £300 more. This PC is therefore worthy of a Recommended award for value alone.
Our Best Buy award goes the Yoyotech Warbird RS4.0. While it may look the same as systems from Dino and Quiet PC, it’s more than £200 cheaper than the latter and keeps pace with the latter in gaming, while drawing much less power. Its standard-clocked Intel Core i5-4670K processor and nVidia GeForce GTX770 graphics card provide an excellent balance of price and performance for a £1,000 gaming PC.

Best compact gaming PCs 2015 UK

6. Wired2Fire Hadron

Wired2Fire Hadron
The Wired2Fire Hadron looks like a standard gaming tower, only one greatly shrunk in size. It has excellent build quality with an expensive feel. The processor may be overclocked to 4.2 GHz and has 16 GB of memory and a 250 GB flash drive, which all make for great desktop performance. Unfortunately, we're mainly interested in its gaming credentials, and its graphics card is slower than most of the competition, resulting in poorer gaming performance.

5. Quiet PC Serenity Nano

Quiet PC Serenity Nano
This system is over-engineered to provide maximum efficiency and low audible noise. To do this, some overclocking potential is sacrificed, although its factory overclocked graphics card makes it one of the best performers when it comes to gaming. Unfortunately, it's also rather expensive, and far from quiet when gaming.

4. Dino PC Microraptor GTX 770

Dino PC Microraptor GTX 770 The Dino PC Microraptor, delivers excellent performance for the price thanks to the combination of Intel Core i5-4670K overclocked to 4.3 GHz and nVidia GeForce GTX770 graphics. It may look almost identical to competition from Quiet PC and Yoyotech, but outperforms both.

3. Mesh Elite Mini Gaming OC

Mesh Elite Mini Gaming OC
This is a smart-looking PC, with superb performance in gaming, general computing and creative applications. It offers excellent build quality and features, but is also rather expensive. If you really care about games and nothing else, you may be able to make some cost savings by specifying a Core i5 processor rather than a Core i7.

2. Chillblast Fusion Xcalibur

Chillblast Fusion Xcalibur The Chillblast Fusion Xcalibur is a relatively inexpensive Gaming PC, this is reflected both in its overall performance and looks. However it's still capable of matching the gaming frame rates of much more expensive systems.

1. Yoyotech Warbird RS4.0

Yoyotech Warbird RS4.0 Externally almost identical to Dino PC's Microraptor and Quiet PC's Serenity Nano, the Yoyotech Warbird is a very smart, compact gaming PC with a built-in Blu-ray writer and good gaming performance. This PC ships with a standard Intel processor, and can play faster than some systems that have been overclocked.
Xbox One Discounted to $249 For Limited Time

Xbox One Discounted to $249 For Limited Time

Microsoft has announced a summer sale for the Xbox One 500GB console, which will run as long as "supplies last." All Xbox One 500GB consoles are now $249.

This deal applies to the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition bundle, the special edition Quantum Break bundle featuring a white Xbox One, and the Name your Game bundle that allows the purchaser to redeem one digital game of their choice out of Forza Motorsport 6, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, or Rare Replay.
The new price represents a $100 discount, and at GameStop the markdown also applies to the 1TB Xbox One, bringing the price down to $300. The last time we saw a major price drop for the Xbox One was back in March, with the console marked down to $300 during Microsoft's Spring Sale.
The price drop follows on from recent reports that the PlayStation 4 was again the top-selling console in the US for the month of June, claiming the spot for the third month in a row. Overall, hardware sales in the US dropped a dramatic 42 percent year-over-year, from $313.1 million last June to $181.5 million this year.

Nvidia Announces New $1,200 Titan X GPU

Hardware company Nvidia has announced a new GP102-based Titan X graphics card that is up to 60 percent faster than the previous Titan X model. The GPU was revealed at a special artificial intelligence presentation at Stanford University, with Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang making the announcement.

Specifications are as follows:
  • 12-billion transistors
  • 11 TFLOPs FP32 (32-bit floating point)
  • 44 TOPS INT8
  • 3,584 CUDA cores at 1.53GHz (versus 3,072 CUDA cores at 1.08GHz in previous TITAN X)
  • High performance engineering for maximum overclocking
  • 12GB of GDDR5X memory (480GB/s)
This new Titan X is based on Nvidia's new Pascal architecture, and houses 3,584 CUDA cores--the highest amount ever. The card will be available from the Nvidia website for North America, Europe, and "select system builders" from August 2. It will be "coming soon" to Asia. If you're thinking of picking one up, it'll set you back $1,200. Note that Nvidia has also called it "the biggest GPU ever built" so it might be worth checking if it'll fit your build before making a purchase.
GameSpot recently reviewed Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1060, GTX 1070, and GTX 1080 line of cards. Nvidia first revealed the GTX 1060 in July, a $250 card that the company claimed to deliver "GTX 980-level performance."

Xbox One S Release Date Announced, Only the Most Expensive Version Available at First

The Xbox One S will begin its rollout on August 2, Microsoft announced today.
That's when the $400 2 TB model of the white console will be available. Microsoft will also offer the system in 1 TB ($350) and 500 GB ($300) configurations, but those versions, as rumored, are coming later. The release dates for the 1 TB and 500 GB models are listed by Microsoft as December 2016.

Microsoft announced the Xbox One S at E3 2016, heavily touting a $300 price point and an August release date. As it turns out, only the most expensive version will be available at first.
The Xbox One S is 40 percent smaller than the current Xbox One and comes with an internal power supply, compared to external for the existing model. Also, the Xbox One S supports High Dynamic Range (HDR), which offers "richer, more luminous colors"; Microsoft-published games such as Gears of War 4 and Scalebound will be among the first to support HDR.
Additionally, the Xbox One S comes with an updated Xbox One controller that features a new textured grip, better wireless, and Bluetooth support. This controller can also be purchased separately for $60, starting on August 2.
The Xbox One S can be positioned vertically, and the 2 TB edition comes with a stand. The 1 TB and 500 GB models do not, though this accessory (which is only for the Xbox One S), can be purchased separately for $20.
Another thing to note that is all Xbox One games, accessories, and Xbox Live services are supported on Xbox One S. Additionally, the only color announced so far is white.
In addition to the slimmed-down system, Microsoft is releasing a new, more powerful Xbox device, Project Scorpio, in holiday 2017. Microsoft has referred to this system as the "most powerful console ever made." Pricing has not been announced.

GEM Box Hardware Review

GEM Box Hardware Review

GEM Box Hardware Review The GEM (Gaming, Entertainment, and Multimedia) Box offers gamers an affordable middle ground between major consoles and streaming devices like the Amazon Fire Stick.

Consumers have plenty of options when it comes to managing living room home entertainment systems. In addition to three major consoles that support most mainstream apps, there are also a variety of non-gaming products like the Roku or Amazon Fire Stick available. Gamers looking for a middle ground between a $300 console and a streaming device that is unable to support full games have a new option in the Android-powered EMTEC GEM Box.
The GEM in GEM Box stands for game, entertainment, and multimedia and the compact product does an impressive job of delivering on all three of those entertainment fronts. In terms of room presence, the GEM Box isn’t very invasive. The tiny piece of hardware is bigger than an Amazon Fire Stick, but also seems to pack a lot more gaming power. The box itself is just 83x83x24.5mm and contains ports for Ethernet (though it has wireless support, as well), a controller charger, and power.

Specs:
  • Quad-Core 1.5 GHz CPU
  • DDR 1GB of RAM
  • Flash 16GB
  • USB 2.0 Port
  • Micro SD Port
  • HDMI Port
  • ARM Mali-450MP6 GPU
The device’s menu will likely be a welcome site for Android phone users, but it is also clean and organized enough to navigate for iOS or Windows fans who are new to an Android environment. The interface is also somewhat customizable, so users who are more comfortable can tweak things to their liking.
Like many of its competitors, the GEM Box is truly plug-and-play. There is a ton that owners can add to the machine, but it pretty much works out of the box without any effort. The machine comes pre-loaded with a Google Play Store app and a few emulators that give gamers something to do on the console aside from stream Netflix or Hulu. On the subject of the video streaming apps (which are crucial for many in terms of living room entertainment), most of these apps require Android 5.0, but the Box is only running on 4.4. Luckily, there are some pretty easy ways around those limitations, but they will likely cause a headache for the more casual users. It’s certainly not a complete roadblock, but does require a bit of resourcefulness.
In addition to the apps that are local to the GEM Box, the hardware also offers the option to mirror displays from smartphones and tablets. It’s likely that anything users would want to stream on a phone or tablet would also be available through one of the GEM Box’s apps, but the feature is still useful if there is music or video local to a phone or tablet that would look better on a big screen.
The GEM Box can stream games from a local PC, as well. This feature makes the hardware an interesting alternative to Steam Link, with the added advantage of allowing the use of games outside of Steam libraries. If having a PC in the living room is a bit too much of an eye sore, this option is a great alternative.
gem-box-streaming-games
One of the most exciting features about the GEM Box for gamers is the support of GameFly streaming. This feature can be a bit of a logistical problem because it requires consistent high Internet speeds and either a hardwired or a 5ghz connection, but once GameFly Streaming is up and running, the games perform surprisingly well on the little machine. Taking advantage of this feature obviously requires a GameFly subscription and very reliable internet speeds, but homeowners who meet those two prerequisites will have quite a powerful video game arsenal in the living room, even without a console or PC.
The GEM Box supports up to four local players and comes with one Bluetooth controller. The controller is very similar to the Xbox One’s, but feels quite a bit lighter. The lack of weight on the controller, which comes from not having an attached battery pack, makes it feel a little less sturdy, but we adjusted to the weight difference after a few play sessions. A button on the controller also offers the ability to switch its layout to mouse mode, which is useful for navigating apps that aren’t optimized for controllers. In addition to the bundled controller, the GEM Box also supports wired Xbox 360 and PS4 controllers.
The GEM Box’s price tag is probably the feature that will get the most attention. The GEM comes in at $99, which puts it at a few hundred dollars less than a Microsoft or Sony console and about $20 or so above its multimedia streaming competition. For gamers looking to get some gaming into a room without adding a console, the GEM Box is a solid option. The extent of its power will be limited by internet speed and the tech-savvy of the owner, but the GEM Box sets up a powerful and exciting playground to explore.
Game Rant was temporarily provided early access to a GEM Box for this review.
The GEM Box is available later summer for $99.
HP ProBook 450 G2 Notebook Review

HP ProBook 450 G2 Notebook Review

The HP ProBook 450 G2 is something of a rarity these days, sticking with the five-year-old Windows 7 operating system instead of shipping with Windows 8 (upgrade discs are included). For many, this could be a key attraction to this bargain business laptop.
The chassis is exceptionally well built for a laptop under £500, with a rubberised coating on the outside of the lid and a dark brushed metal-style material for the keyboard tray. These materials don't pick up grease easily and also feel pretty rugged, meaning this is a laptop that should survive a fair amount of abuse being slung into bags and taken on public transport.
There are four USB ports on the device: two on the left and two on the right, with those on the left being super speed USB3 ports. The presence of HDMI a VGA connector mean you'll be able to connect to most monitors and projectors when giving a presentation or stationed at a desk, and you could even connect to a TV if you fancy watching some video on a larger screen.
Iphone 6 plus review great for gamers

The keyboard follows most other modern laptops, using separated, Chiclet-style keys. There's a decent amount of feedback to them and a generous amount of travel, too. This makes typing for long periods comfortable and pleasant. A touchpad of equal quality finishes things of nicely. Its physical buttons, located below the pad, bring back the lost art of soft mouse buttons, and have a huge amount travel, which is something we really like.
There's a fingerprint scanner just below the number pad, which allows you to set up an alternative to a password when logging into Windows. The pre-installed HP Client Security software also lets you set up file encryption to secure your important data from thieves.
The ProBook 450 G2 comes with 4GB of RAM and is powered by a dual-core 1.9GHz Intel Core i3-4030U processor. It's not the most potent of combinations but for basic business and leisure tasks it's enough, especially because it uses hyper threading technology to turn those two physical cores into four virtual ones for better multitasking. Single core performance was particularly strong: in our benchmarking tests focusing on single thread applications the ProBook scored 46. This is a good score for a sub-£500 laptop. Tasks requiring multiple cores were a little slower; for both video conversion and multitasking the laptop scored 36, giving the ProBook 450 G2 an overall score of 37.

This is a business laptop, so 3D gaming performance is likely to be of little importance to HP's target market. However, should you wish to dabble in very basic games, you may be able to do so. The processor's integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400 will happily handle high resolution video but it will stutter with advanced 3D applications and games. Running Dirt Showdown at 1,280x720 pixels on High detail yielded an average frame rate of 18fps, which isn't enough to be able to play the game smoothly. Some older games will be fine, but if you're looking for gaming performance you'll need to buy a more expensive laptop.

You get a 500GB hard disk, which should be big enough for most users to store their most important files. If that isn't enough, buyers also get a 50GB Box Cloud storage account for life, with a maximum file size limit of 250MB.
Battery life is reasonably long, with the ProBook lasting 5h 50m in our rundown test. You'll still want to take the fairly light charger with you if you're heading out for the day, but if you're going for a meeting or doing some work from the sofa, you will be fine for a few hours.
It's a shame that the 15.6in screen on the ProBook 450 G2 isn't Full HD, instead only having a 1,366x768 pixel panel. It's not a bad screen, but on a device this big a 1,920x1,080 pixel panel would have been welcome, not least because that resolution allows you to run two programs side-by-side comfortably. It's able to cover 66 per cent of the sRGB colour gamut (an average score for a laptop) and it's nice and bright, meaning you could use this laptop relatively comfortably outside. Your ability to view it outdoors is also helped by the screen's matt coating.
The HP ProBook 450 G2 is a sturdy business laptop with reasonable performance and a good keyboard, which is about as much as you can ask from a cheap business laptop. If your needs are modest, this is a great buy. Otherwise, spend £100 more and you could buy the Chillblast Akira, which has a dedicated graphics card and a Full HD screen.
