Video game manufacturer Nintendo’s forthcoming The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Wii U and NX takes top honors among gamescom 2016’s award winners.
For many, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was easily one of the most brilliant showings at this year’s Electronics Entertainment Expo, as it not only generated the most excitement and longest lines for a demo at the event, but also went on to become the award winner for the E3 2016 Game Critics’ Best Game. As it happens, it seems as if the same ineffable magic and charm of Nintendo’s forthcoming action-adventure title starring Link rubbed off on the jury for this year’s gamescom in Cologne, Germany, as it won the honors for Best of gamescom 2016, as well as Best Console Game for Wii U.Quite honestly, these honors for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to gaming fans, especially considering the confidence Nintendo has displayed when promoting the title. As a matter of fact, the company was so assured in the release upon its initial reveal that it ended up dedicating the majority of its E3 Treehouse presser to deliver in-depth coverage of Breath of the Wild‘s gameplay details.
While it’s indeed magnificent to learn of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild getting lofty distinctions, it’s also important to note that gamescom 2016 was chock full of other award winners. For instance, Ubisoft Montreal’s hack-and-slash title For Honor won best game on both PC and the PlayStation 4, while the pirate-themed adventure game from Rare known as Sea of Thieves was named best Xbox One game and best multiplayer game at the event. Although The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is receiving loads of praise prior to its launch in 2017, some fans might be wondering which port of the game — on Wii U or NX, that is — will provide players with the most satisfying gameplay. According to Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma, it doesn’t matter which platform fans choose, for Breath of the Wild‘s Wii U and NX versions offer the same experience.
Bearing all of this in mind, it’s simple to realize that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is being viewed by most of the gaming world as one of the most highly anticipated titles in recent memory. In all actuality, some even believe that Breath of the Wild will contribute to a burgeoning Nintendo renaissance, and ultimately help put the company back on top in terms of popularity with fans. While such a notion remains to be seen, of course, it’s safe to say that it would be difficult to find anyone who hasn’t been impressed with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s offerings thus far.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is set for a 2017 launch for Wii U and NX.
