E3 2016: The weird from gaming expo

New games, old faces, and a whole lot of VR. This year's E3 convention did not disappoint.
For the uninitiated, E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo) is the promised land for gamers around the world.
It is that time of year when Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and a host of other gaming publishers converge in Los Angeles to dish the details on all their upcoming titles.
Here is a look at some of the highlights from this year's conference:

What's old is new again

PlayStation stalwarts like God of War, Resident Evil, and Final Fantasy will all return in the near future.

God of War was a bit of a shock.
Besides a 2015 remastered version of the third instalment, there has not been any activity on the franchise in quite some time.
This latest instalment looks to be both a sequel and a bit of a reboot at the same time.
But perhaps the biggest surprise was the return of PlayStation original Crash Bandicoot.
The Australian marsupial will grace PS4 consoles in remastered versions of his first three outings on the original PS1.

2016 marks 20 years since Crash first, well, crashed onto PS1, so his homecoming is both well timed and well overdue.
Speaking of 20 year anniversaries, arena shooter classic Quake is getting a new title, Quake Champions, it was announced.
One upcoming franchise return that should get Aussies all revved up is the latest Forza Horizons title.
The third instalment will be set Down Under, it was announced.
Soon you will be able to drive from Surfers Paradise to Byron Bay along the Great Ocean Road.
