For many people, the quick-chat options in Rocket League--the short text commands and reactions accessible with the D-pad--are the only way communication happens during a match. Almost a year after its initial release, the game is finally expanding what you can say with those commands and adding a post-game spotlight screen.
As detailed on the game's official blog,
June's big update will add 27 new quick-chat phrases. Rather than
complicating the Dd-pad inputs used for quick-chat, you'll instead now
be able to customize what four statements you'll have access to after
pressing any direction on the D-pad. New choices include "Great Clear!"
(helping to acknowledge the most critical-but-unappreciated of plays),
"Savage!," and "Holy cow!"
Additionally,
eight new phrases are being added to a list of quick chats only
accessible following a game. Finally, you'll be able to say things like
"gg" and "Rematch!" without needing to manually type it in or hoping
others are using voice chat.
The June update also
introduces a new post-game spotlight screen. Players' accomplishments or
failures from the preceding match will be called out with various
titles (like Traitor for scoring an own goal or Aggressor for getting
the most first-touches). It'll also allow these players to celebrate by
jumping, spinning, and boosting in place, as seen in the gif below.
The June update doesn't yet have a release date, but more details are expected in the coming weeks.
